In order to promote economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the German state of Bavaria, the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany, in coordination with the Munich Chamber of Industry and Commerce, organized the Vietnam–Germany (Bavaria) Economic Cooperation Roundtable on April 13, 2026, on the occasion of Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh’s working visit to Bavaria.

Attending the roundtable were the Ambassador and representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Germany. On the IHK side, participants included Mr. Christoph Angerbauer, Member of the Executive Board, along with representatives from international and Asia-Pacific departments. The event attracted numerous Bavarian enterprises currently investing in or interested in expanding their operations in Vietnam, such as SPINNER Group, mgm technology partners, and MAWA, as well as major Vietnamese companies operating in Germany, including FPT Corporation, Vietnam Airlines.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh emphasized that the Vietnam–Germany Strategic Partnership has been developing strongly, particularly in the fields of economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Vietnam maintains stable growth and is one of the most dynamic economies in Asia, while increasingly asserting its role in global supply chains and high-tech industries.

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam is striving to become a modern industrialized country by 2030 and a developed nation by 2045, thereby creating numerous opportunities for international businesses, including German enterprises. He also highlighted the effectiveness of Vietnam–Germany economic cooperation through various flagship projects, most recently the Hanoi–Quang Ninh high-speed railway project with the participation of Siemens Mobility.

He further noted that amid ongoing reforms promoted by the German Federal Government—focusing on supply chain security, market and partner diversification, and risk mitigation strategies—Vietnam is well positioned to align with the business development plans of German and Bavarian enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.

On behalf of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Christoph Angerbauer described Vietnam as a dynamic and fast-growing economy. He noted that Vietnam is an important economic partner of Bavaria, with bilateral trade reaching €4.5 billion—comparable to Bavaria’s trade with Mexico. He added that Bavaria has strong capabilities in areas such as green transport, energy efficiency, innovation, industry, and digitalization, and consistently welcomes Vietnamese enterprises to invest and operate in the state. He also praised the cooperation between the Vietnamese Embassy and IHK in organizing the event, noting that it provides an excellent opportunity to build trust through personal connections.

German companies expressed strong appreciation for the potential of the Vietnamese market, while sharing their operational experiences, expansion plans, and challenges encountered during project implementation. Both sides engaged in open and constructive discussions on measures to improve the business environment, enhance business connectivity, and strengthen support from relevant authorities.

The roundtable was held in an open and substantive manner, contributing to greater mutual understanding and promoting economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Bavaria in particular, as well as between Vietnam and Germany in general.

Bavaria is one of the most developed and dynamic economies in Germany, with a GDP comparable to that of Switzerland and accounting for a significant share of Germany’s total GDP (approximately 18–20%). Its economy is highly diversified, with a strong focus on manufacturing—particularly in the automotive and high-tech sectors—represented by major corporations such as BMW, Audi, and Siemens. At the same time, Bavaria serves as a major innovation hub, with strong development in information technology, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, primarily concentrated in Munich.
